Runway Incursion

The unauthorized presence of an aircraft (fixed, rotor wing or RPAS) or a ground vehicle on a protected designated runway for the landing and take-off of aircraft. Events include wrong runway, taxiway or airport landings, unauthorized runway crossings, and vehicle incursions.

These occurrences can lead to reduced separation, runway or ground collisions, rejected takeoffs, and increased flight crew and ATC workload. Effective prevention requires robust coordination, situational awareness, standardized procedures, clear markings and signage, and strong safety management practices among all stakeholders.
