Description
Running engines and the movement of aircraft on the ground, either under their own power or towed, creates a number of risks. There is a particular risk of serious injuries, disability or fatality, and aircraft damage, in areas affected by aircraft engine ingestion, blast, and propellers. The risk of engine ingestion/blast can be mitigated by following the safe work practices defined in IGOM, example for working around the aircraft, running engines including propeller, during pre-arrival activities, aircraft arrival/departure, safely approaching the aircraft, positioning and removal of safety cones and chocks. Implementation of IGOM procedures and trainings can mitigate the risks of engine ingestion and blast. Safety promotion shall be used for ground personnel to emphasize the risks working around aircraft and the safety risk mitigation measures. An airline or GHSPs shall not deviate from IGOM/AHM industry standards unless absolutely necessary due to operational limitation or regulatory requirements, and only after a risk assessment has been carried out to ensure exceptions are unavoidable and equivalent safety measures are in place to mitigate risks.
